Sweet Reunion

MeandEva

Last weekend I was lucky to get to spend time with my Great Aunt Eva and Uncle Reuben. They are both in their 90's and are an absolute anchor in our family. They are also celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary this year! The house was bustling with multiple generations - including relatives I hadn't seen in years!!! It was really special.

Locket

While we were eating lunch, I noticed a small heart shaped photo sitting on the table (you can sort of see it on the napkin above). It was an old photo of my Great Grandfather Alfred. Aunt Eva had found it recently while going through some old papers. She thinks someone must have worn it in a locket at some point....

Uncle Reuben was all smiles, enjoying the family, the sun, and his pipe. It was so nice to catch up with him and to snuggle with my niece Bella.

Trees

Among Aunt Eva's many gifts, is her creativity. She took up painting as a young adult and her canvases hang all around the house. Brandon also paints and they spent some time talking about her interest in Dutch master landscape artists among other things. She told a great story about how she saw a photo of Degas' Polish Dancers in Time magazine and decided to copy it. It was only the size of a postage stamp in the magazine, but she figured it out (you can see her version of the dancers in the first photo).
When B asked her secret to painting such beautiful trees, her answer was simple."Slowly, and one leaf at a time." Such words of wisdom.
