Arugula with Cherries, Almonds and Feta

This is one of my favorite times of year. Stone fruits are finally here - which means two things: gorgeous summer salads and jam making. B brought these lovely cherries home from the farmer's market the other day and I just couldn't resist throwing them into a salad. My formula is pretty simple - pair a sweet/tart fruit with a creamy/crumbly cheese (such as feta or goat cheese), throw in some toasted nuts, such as almonds, and toss it all with some arugula in a light vinaigrette. VoilĂ  - summer at your table!

Flirting with a new project

True to form, just when I'm very nearly almost done with Ma's quilt, I've already started thinking about my next project. Awhile back, I bought a sweet little charm pack from Moda called "flirt". How cute is that?! Then I found the perfect pattern for it - a modernized log cabin from Red Pepper Quilts. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Turkey Chowder with Wild Rice, Crimini and Pancetta

We were feeling a little gloomy the other night - uninspired by anything in the fridge. Then - in a stroke of genius, B remembered a soup I had made just after Thanksgiving that we found on epicurious. I didn't have turkey on hand, but I did have some leftover roasted chicken which worked perfectly.

They call this a Turkey Chowder and it is definitely hearty. I lightened it up by cutting the butter way down and substituting half and half instead of heavy cream. Serve with a green salad and a crunchy baguette - and you'll be in heaven!
